TCM Nutrition

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, food is viewed according to its energetic properties rather than calorie counts or biochemical charts. At TCM Praxis Töss, dietary advice is not offered as a weight-loss plan or a generic diet. Instead, Mrs Zhang provides practical nutritional suggestions alongside treatments such as acupuncture and herbal therapy to support your individual constitution.

Mrs Zhang is a qualified TCM therapist with more than 30 years of clinical experience in China, England, and Switzerland, where she has been practising since 2017. She is not a medical doctor. TCM dietary advice does not replace medical assessment or medical nutrition therapy.

TCM classifies foods according to their thermal qualities—ranging from hot and warm to neutral, cool, and cold—as well as their flavours and the body systems they relate to.

  • Warming and hot foods: Examples include ginger, cinnamon, lamb, and cooked root vegetables. These are typically recommended when a person presents with cold patterns.
  • Cooling and cold foods: Examples include cucumber, peppermint, watermelon, and raw salads. These are suggested when a person shows signs of internal heat.
  • Neutral foods: Ingredients like rice, oats, and many cooked vegetables provide a balanced base.

The way food is prepared also changes its thermal quality. TCM generally favours warm, cooked meals over raw or iced foods, particularly for people with sensitive digestion. Advice is always matched to the individual: an ingredient that suits one person may be unsuitable for another depending on their current TCM pattern.

Dietary advice starts with a TCM diagnosis, during which Mrs Zhang assesses your tongue, pulse, and daily complaints. She asks about your regular eating patterns, cooking methods, and routine. Based on this, you receive straightforward guidance on which foods to include and which to reduce for a period of time.

Mrs Zhang makes no promises regarding treatment outcomes. The goal is to provide clear, actionable suggestions that you can integrate into your everyday routine at home.

A Chinese Diagnosis (20–30 minutes) costs CHF 60.00. Nutritional advice given as part of a follow-up is billed by duration, as Additional Consultations (5 minutes, CHF 13.00). The complete table is listed on the pricing page.

Swiss basic health insurance (KVG) generally does not cover consultations with a TCM therapist. Supplementary insurance (VVG) for complementary medicine often covers a portion of the fee if the therapist holds recognized credentials. Mrs Zhang is recognised by both EMR and ASCA (ZSR number A100263). Reimbursement depends entirely on your specific insurance policy, so we recommend checking your annual limits and deductible with your insurer before your visit. Further details are on the insurance page.
